Day 37 of Lent
April 2, 2009

For once you were darkness, but now in the Lord you are light. Live as children of light - for the fruit of the light is found in all that is good and right and true. Try to find out what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to mention what such people do secretly; but everything exposed by the light becomes visible, for everything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, "Sleeper, awake! Rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."

Ephesians 5:8-14

To think about:

We are all children of God. As his children, God loves us more than we can ever imagine. But sin (the darkness) keeps getting in the way of our beloved Lord. In order to become closer to God (children of light) we need to live our lives to honor and glorify him.

Our lifestyle reflects our faith. As a result, "Christ will shine on us." As Roy Lessin says, "God has more for us than our faith could ever imagine and more than our hearts could ever hold."

To pray:

Loving and forgiving God, thank you for coming into our lives. Although we are not worthy of your love, help us to continue to seek your love and guidance. Only with your help can the "darkness" be replaced with the "light" of Jesus. Help us to grow in faith, hope, and love, through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
