Our sinful nature!
We are all sinners; some sins we feel are "bigger" than others. Why is it that we tend to hold on to these sins? We ask forgiveness but still hold on to the guilt, the pain. I find myself dwelling a lot on the past. My past sins, my past actions that I'm not proud of - even though I know that through the grace of God I have been forgiven, these sins haunt me still today.
Our sins are forgiven!
Our text tells us that we are dead in our trespasses, but God made us alive together with him when he forgave our sins. God doesn't just forgive the "little sins." He forgives all our sins. When we ask God for forgiveness and are truly repentant of our sins, God forgives us. We can let the sins go, knowing that we are truly forgiven.
Our sins are gone!
Paul tells us in his letter that God erases the record that stood against us. He doesn't hold a ledger of our sins to use later or show us how sinful we really are. Your sins are forgiven and forgotten. Jesus took our sins upon him - past, present, and future sins - and died on the cross to wipe the slate clean. He brought God to us, to have a personal relationship with us. |
