Day 25 of Lent
March 21, 2009

See, I have set before you today life and prosperity, death and adversity. If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God that I am commanding you today, by loving the Lord your God, walking in his ways, and observing his commandments, decrees, and ordinances, then you shall live and become numerous, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to possess. But if your heart turns away and you do not hear, but are led astray to bow down to other gods and serve them, I declare to you today that you shall perish; you shall not live long in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess.

Deuteronomy 30:15-18

To think about:

I was so overwhelmed today by work, school, and writing this devotion! I thought I would have more time. I decided to pray about it. I asked God to help me, and then I went to take a shower to clear my head.

As I stepped out of the shower, I began to put face cream on my face and realized I was putting on sunscreen. It was 9 p.m. and in the dead of winter! I started to laugh. It should have been night cream! God made me see that I had a choice. I could continue to be overwhelmed, or I could put my faith and trust in him. You have a choice! You can choose life and success, or death and adversity. If you obey him, you will live and become successful and powerful. But, if you choose to disobey him and reject him, you choose death and adversity. I choose life and all that God has to offer. It’s an easy choice for me. I pray that it will be for you too.

To pray:

Dear Lord, when I'm feeling overwhelmed, help me to remember to choose you and your Son. Thank you for your grace. Amen.
