Day 16 of Lent
March 12, 2009 |

So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us; we entreat you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. As we work together with him, we urge you also not to accept the grace of God in vain. For he says, "At an acceptable time I have listened to you, and on a day of salvation I have helped you." See, now is the acceptable time; see, now is the day of salvation!
We are putting no obstacle in anyone's way, so that no fault may be found with our ministry, but as servants of God we have commended ourselves in every way: through great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities, beatings, imprisonments, riots, labors, sleepless nights, hunger; by purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, holiness of spirit, genuine love, truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; in honor and dishonor, in ill repute and good repute. We are treated as impostors, and yet are true; as unknown, and yet are well known; as dying, and see - we are alive; as punished, and yet not killed; as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing everything. |

To think about: |
|
God has richly blessed us with a community of believers to support, lift up in prayer, and share in the spreading of God's good news to the whole world. God has called each of us as God's own and given us the task of going out to all nations and making disciples. As each of us is called, we may ask, "How is it that I am called to such a task, and how do I go about doing what I am called to do?" We find ourselves, whether at work or at school, in unique places with people who have not heard this good news of Jesus Christ, and the opportunity is right in front of us.
Sometimes these opportunities come and go, and sometimes we may even throw obstacles in the way. Perhaps it is our own insecurities, fears, and doubts that keep us from sharing this good news. We may lose sight of the fact that we are surrounded by a community of believers and when the community of believers work together, support, love and encourage one another, the task that seemed daunting becomes a little less. And we can be sure that the Holy Spirit is most certainly at work.
As Christians who are called to go out, we risk persecution, afflictions and hardships. We risk being treated as if we do not know what we are speaking about, and yet, we know very well. We may give away all that we have in order to share this good news and be left with nothing, and yet, in Jesus Christ, we find truth, new life and all that we need. |

To pray: |
|
Gracious God, you have claimed us as your own and have called us to share your good news with all the world. Be with us as we walk the road with you, and bless us in our work together. In Jesus' name. Amen. |
