Day 3 of Lent
Feb. 27, 2009

To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.

O my God, in you I trust; do not let me be put to shame; do not let my enemies exult over me.

Do not let those who wait for you be put to shame; let them be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.

Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths.

Lead me in your truth, and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all day long.

Be mindful of your mercy, O Lord, and of your steadfast love, for they have been from of old.

Do not remember the sins of my youth or my transgressions; according to your steadfast love remember me, for your goodness' sake, O Lord!

Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in the way.

He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way.

Psalm 25:1-9

To think about:

How many times in life are we reminded to trust in the Lord? Many, no doubt. As a child, trusting in the Lord seems silly and unimportant. We know God is somewhere in the universe, and we learn about his love for us in church and Sunday school. But as youngsters we put much of our trust in our family members and friends. And there are times when these folks will disappoint us.

As we grow older and venture out on our own, our family and friends may be hundreds of miles away from us. Some may have died, and we may have grown apart from some of them.  It is now that we realize the importance of trusting in the Lord. We begin to understand the meaning of trusting in him because we know now he is always there with us and he will never abandon us. We are the ones who move away from him. His ways are the ones we must follow, and his paths are the ones we should choose to lead us forward.

It is very easy to stray away from God's paths in our lives. However, when we do stray away, God is always there, waiting for us to repent and return to his fold. Sometimes he has to shake us free from our evil ways in order for us to understand his powerful love for us. His mercy and forgiveness is everlasting.

To pray:

Thank you, God, for your patience and for showing us the way. Amen.
