“Unsatisfied”
“Do not steal.” Exodus 20:15
I don’t know how many times I’ve heard from my grandma, and surprisingly many other people, about how they stole a single piece of candy from the grocery store. It always begins with this little innocent child quickly and quietly slipping that shinny piece of candy into their pocket. They are very satisfied with themselves, that is, until Mom and the infamous “eyes in back of her head” catches the candy thief. In my grandma’s story her mother caught her with the stolen goods in the parking lot. She slapped her hand, made her apologize to the owner, gave back the candy and also paid for it. She said that was one of the most embarrassing moments of her life.
This has never happened to me personally because I would be much too afraid of the consequences. “Do not steal.” Three little words. This has to be one of the simplest commandments to understand, but one of the hardest to obey. We are jealous people, always wanting what others have; never satisfied. If you let the Lord into your life, he will satisfy you with His undying love.
Dear, Lord, Help us to resist temptations and lead us as we seek you to fill the gap of unsatisfaction with your love. Amen |
