Who Are the Churchless?
with Pastor Steve Solberg
Immanuel Lutheran Church, Negaunee Room 101 3:30 – 4:15 4:30 – 5:15
Dietrich Bonhoeffer, German pastor and martyr, observed that “the church is the church only when it exists for others” – that is, for outsiders. Christian witness doesn’t start with talking but listening…to God as well at those all around us whom God dearly loves. After all, it’s really helpful to know someone’s questions (and answers) before you try to give them your answers. In this session, we’ll use latest polling results from the Barna Group to continue (or begin) our listening to what’s going on in the hearts and minds of those who have no church connection, ones for whom we as the church exist.
Wondering with Children and Youth
with Lisa Johnson, AIM
Messiah Lutheran Church, Marquette Room 102 3:30 – 4:15 4:30 – 5:15
One of the most important things we can do for the children, youth and families we serve is to help them think theologically. Thinking theologically is not the memorization and regurgitation of dogma or doctrine. Rather, it is the active and fluid reflection on God’s current and ongoing activity in our lives and communities. It is not reserved for only pastors or adults, it is for all of us. This workshop will help you discover ways to help children, youth and families wonder together about God and reflect on God’s redemptive action in our world.
Faith Out Loud
with Rev. Jim Duehring,
Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Marquette Room 103 3:30 – 4:15 4:30 – 5:15
According to Pew Research, half of U.S. adults seldom or never discuss religion with someone outside of their family. Lutheran Christians are also very hesitant when it comes to these conversations about faith. In this workshop, we will consider some concrete ways we might better talk about faith with others.
with Rev. Chris Boerger
ELCA Secretary Room 201 4:30 – 5:15 only
Do you have questions about your constitution like, “How often should it be updated?” or “What really needs to be in the constitution?” Here’s your chance to meet Rev. Chris Boerger and get his answers to these questions and others.
